For those that keep up with my blog, you know that I love to lift weights. BUT, resistance or weight training is a must in your health/weight loss routine. Not only does muscle burn more calories at rest than fat, but muscle also supports the body & helps us from injury as we get older, not to forget fending off osteoporosis too! Now, if you are past the beginner stage in weight training, definitely try to incorporate controlling the negative portion of the movement when you lift weights. For example, in a barbell or dumbbell curl, you curl up & then release down. The release down is the negative portion. Try controlling that down movement for at least 4 counts. You will be amazed how hard this feels as you get closer to the last few reps in your set. Some routines for negatives as we call them take even longer on the release but let's leave that be for now.
With your weight training, be sure to use proper form but also really try controlling the negative portion of it. You will be amazed & most likely feel it the next day!
